We spent out new year's eve this year in Vegas and booked 3 nights in the Mirage. So you are near two Cirque Du Soleil shows (Beatles Love and Mystere) and a bunch of good restaurants nearby (including Thomas Keller's Bouchon in the Venetian and the Caesar's Bacchanal buffet, not too mention some "cheaper" eats, like pho noodles, inside the Treasure Island). It is right in front of the Venetian and across the street from Caesar's Palace, and an internal tram ride from/to the Treasure Island. The big advantage of the Mirage is the location. that you may wish for a hotel in that class. However, the hotel is well maintained and they remodel it from time to time, and has all the amenities, comfort, etc. Obviously it does not have the same mood as the Venetian next door, the Wynn, the Arya down the road, or even the MGM. The Mirage is one of the "older" hotels in that part of the strip. I thought the choice was particularly good. I did a major research taking into consideration cost (new years' eve rooms on the strip are at least 3 times their regular rates), location, amenities, family friendliness, and even access to parking, since I was told the strip would be closed for traffic for new year celebration.
